Skills

Skills are a taxonomy of all of the expertise and awesome things the talent in your organisation can do. The Skills relate to your domain and are relevant to what your team does and what makes them special and talented.

You can view the list of your organisation’s Skills by clicking on the Skills tab on the top menu. Skills are sorted in alphabetical order by name.

You can filter the list of skills by entering a filter term in the filter box at the top of the list. You can also page through the list of skills using the page buttons at the top and bottom of the list.

Creating new Skills

New Skills are created when building a profile. As you enter a new skill on the profile (see more here on creating a profile), your users can choose to create a new Skill if one does not already exist in TalentedTeam.

Who can add new Skills

By default, all users can add new Skill Types when filling in their profile. If your organisation wants to manage the taxonomy of Skill types, you can specify the roles who create Skills in the Settings.

Skills Curation

As new Skills are created, the will start in a state of Pending. Typically an organisation will nominate a few members to curate the Skills taxonomy to remove duplicates, make sure Skills are relevant and correct errors. Pending state skills is a flag for when new skills are created.

If everything checks out, the Curators can accept the Skill and mark it as Approved. As part of the approval workflow, the Curators would also typically add a Category for the skill and may also add a description.

A Category allows organisations to group like Skills.

Viewing Skills

From the Skills page, you can click on any Skill to view the details including a list of all of the Talent that have the skill, including their proficiency rating.

Talent Availability

If you are using the Projects feature of TalentedTeam, you can view your team members availability based on their skills. From the Skill page, click on the “Availability” link on the top menu.

The data grid will show a list sorted and grouped first by when the team member is available (ie. they have no active assignments) and then by their skill level.

The list groups team members available “Now”, then “Next Week” followed by team members available later.
